What is NOVIK ? It is military-historical club at the Samara regional historical museum named for P.V. Alabin.
The name of our club is formed from Russian words which mean "Independent Regional Military-Historical Club" However, in the middle ages "novik" meant a young merchant taken into military service. There were also several ships with this name. The first one was a sail corvette- quite an ordinary combat ship. The second one was a second class cruiser which played a significant role in the Russian-Japanese war. The last one was a very famous destroyer, built not long before WW1.
Samara is only slightly connected with naval history- maybe the name of our club is one of the strongest links. Our city is the aerospace capital of Russia and our club unites people who are especially fond of things that fly.
The Novik club was founded in 1995.
